Our Services
Specializing in grants for rural communities, healthcare, and law enforcement.
The McLeod Group offers grants consulting, writing, and project development assistance for non-profits, K-12, higher education, mental health organizations, hospitals, law enforcement, and local government. Our primary specialization is in aiding rural communities, healthcare organizations, and law enforcement. Our Group will assist your organization with developing a project which fits the goals and needs of your organization.
This includes: matching projects with appropriate grant opportunities, extensive organizational data collection and compilation, developing an appropriate budget for the project and grant opportunity, aligning organizational goals with grant goals, and creating a reasonable and appropriate evaluation plan to improve the outcomes of the project throughout the duration of the grant award.
Cultivating good relationships and a strong organizational image for your agency is an important factor with The McLeod Group. As an example, on September 1st, 2020 Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt had this to say about one of our JAG grant applications: “It would, on its face, strike me as on all fours with what we’ve been looking at and suitable for a green mark . . .” (KS JAG Award Meeting 2020).
The McLeod Group’s grant writing process is comprehensive. From your initial free consultation, the Group will engage in grant opportunity research or begin data compilation if a grant was already selected by the institution. The Group will then develop a comprehensive executive summary detailing the case for need, a preliminary budget, initial goals, and initial evaluation methods. Upon approval from the organization, the Group will then write a draft proposal for organizational review prior to submission. The finalized version of your grant will present your project comprehensively and professionally in order to significantly increase your chances of beings funded.
Why the McLeod Group? The strength of what we offer as grant writers is that we are with you every step of the way. Think of us as an avenue to help reach both your short and long-term goals. Our intent isn’t simply to achieve a grant here or there – but to build relationships and help your organization grow and thrive over time in a sustainable manner.
Fee Structure: The McLeod Group offers two primary arrangements for our clients: 1) A reasonable and competitive flat fee on a per grant basis (NOT a percentage of an award), and 2) a retainer agreement, with a given amount of hours per month. We find many organizations benefit from a retainer in three ways: 1) we are better able to find and obtain grants consistently and continuously develop projects with your organization, 2) this reduces large and sudden budget expenditures for a major grant, and 3) this provides regular assistance in developing and managing grants in order to cultivate good relationships with grantors for future funding. Title III Grants, due to the nature of funding and administration have a different funding fee setup. Please contact us for more information.
Note: Even the most well-written grant proposal in a competition may not be funded. As well-written as a grant may be, the core of any grant is the strength of the project itself. The McLeod Group specializes in ensuring both a competitive project and a high-quality proposal.
Other Services: The McLeod Group also provides grant administration and training, grant prospect research services, assistance with obtaining 501(c)3 status for your not-for-profit organization.
Federal Grant Awards
Having written dozens of federal grant proposals, from programs ranging from higher education Title III Part-A grants to rural health, our Group has the experience necessary to give your project the edge it needs to be funded at the national level. If your college is interested in a Title III Part-A grant award , we are highly experienced with both proposal writing and project administration for Title III, and at a fraction of the cost of other successful competitors.
State Grant Awards
The McLeod Group specializes in Kansas state grant proposals (CDBG, KS Tax Credits KDHE, KBOR, KSDE), but does write for other states in the Midwest and the greater US. State grant proposals are often similar to federal grant proposals, as state grant funding is often in the form of competitive rounds through block grants provided by the federal government to the state. However, state grants are often far less intensive and offer the client an opportunity to build relationships with state organizations and personnel to increase their chances of being funded.
Private Foundation Awards
Private foundation proposals vary greatly in difficulty depending upon whether the competition is national, regional, state-wide, or local. The McLeod Group has written dozens of proposals to numerous foundations with a high rate of success.
Grant Administration and Project Management
Please contact us for more information on fees for grant administration and project management. Our Group offers everything from basic grant training to assisting with staff development and being a continuous resource for full grant project supervision.
Other Services – Grant Prospect Research
Our Group will research and identify 11-15 high funding probability grant opportunities for your institution’s project goals. These opportunities will be provided in a comprehensive and detailed grant report.
Other Services – Obtaining 501(c)3 Status
The McLeod Group also provides developing not-for-profit organizations with assistance in obtaining 501(c)3 status. The 501(c)3 status is an extremely important component of your not-for-profit organization’s success. With 501(c)3 status your organization may confidently accept tax-deductible donations, distribute funds or grants, and receive grants from other agencies.
The 501(c)3 tax-exempt process can be difficult and frustrating, our Group will guide you smoothly through this process so your organization starts on the right foot.
